Casio G-Shock Watches

The G-Shock watch was first launched by Casio in 1983, with a model named the DW-5000C, at a time when analog watches ruled the world and digital timepieces were a relatively new invention.  This unusual contender on the scene was adored by people from all over the USA, although in Japan, G-shock watches only received a luke warm response from the public.  Looking back in history now, it appears the G-shock was simply ahead of it's time (excuse the pun!), as 10 years later, the original DW-5000C was re-launched with the name DW-1983.  Production was limited to just 1,983 time pieces, each engraved with their own product number and sales were limited to Casio's home country of Japan only.

Now these magnificent watches enjoy popularity worldwide.  They are renowned for their lasting ruggedness whilst still retaining a high quality look and design. The name G-shock is a combination of G for gravity and Shock, representing the amazing shockproof qualities which these timepieces have.  Over two hundred prototypes were dropped from buildings to test their durability.  Later, American TV commercials produced a truly powerful image when Ice hockey players were shown splatting the G-Shock around the hockey rink in place of a puck!  Doubting that this could be true, an American news program conducted a test using the same situation a seen in the Television advert.  The producers found out first hand for themselves that these tough watches would not break, even under such extreme pressure!

Whilst retaining their original character, G-Shock watches have evolved from their original late 20th century designs to become a modern day classic, combining their essential qualities with the ongoing technology of today which has produced a wide range of brilliant features like data recording and scheduling, temperature and barometer functions amongst many others.
